July 1st Canada 150th year celebration since the founding of Confederation, a union which eventually placed the Maritime provinces at a trade disadvantage with Central Canada, but that is a whole different story.
The question to be examined is what purpose and function do the monarchy play in Canadian contemporary Society.
Historically there was a useful purpose for the monarchy, but at least from a Canadian perspective, that usefulness has outlived its purpose.
Canada is an independent, self-sustaining body which doesn’t need the monarchy nor the British Common Wealth to maintain its identity on the world socio-political stage.
I say that the time has come to put this dog to rest.
